Welcome

Welcome to Woodlands House and Cottage in the peaceful north Cumbrian village of Ireby.

A former Victorian rectory, offering licensed bed and breakfast accommodation with many original features and modern comforts, in individually styled rooms. Our accompanying converted stable block offers a self-contained cottage for those seeking a self-catering option.

Seated in just under an acre of grounds it affords stunning views over the northern fells of Cumbria towards Skiddaw, Binsey and the pastures of Caldbeck and Boltongate. Our restaurant, lounge, bar and gardens are open to non-residents too; please see our Dine page for more details.

Whether your visit brings you here for adventure in the fells, peace from the bustle of city life or for family celebrations, there is something for everyone to enjoy.

Chef Appreciation Week continues

Leaving behind his chef's toque and his catering trilby, the problem solving and preparation skills of chef life led him into healthcare management. Wind the clock on and the call to the kitchen returned along with opportunity to carve out his own path in his culinary journey, bringing him to Woodlands. He's taken pride in developing relationships with artisan producers and the farming community and creating seasonal, sustainable menus filled with local ingredients.

Chef Appreciation Week continues!👨‍🍳

Food as a medicine - Ars Longa, Vita Brevis
Having trained in 'a la carte', 'banquet' and 'table d'hote' a different line of training began. Carbohydrate counting for diabetics, fortified diets for the frail and dysphagia diets after brain injury, all while maintaining the qualities expected of the foundation training. Things may have moved on in medicine and diets, but the skills of the chef to provide comfort, confidence and convalescence remain.
Food is balm for the soul - let it be part of your rest and relaxation at Woodlands.

From apprenticeship to qualified chef👨‍🍳

A journey from the door of school to a 80 hr week and day release to college.
They say it takes a village to raise a child, and this 'village' of Guernsey's Royal Hotel chefs did just that. Guided by the firm hands of the late Executive Chef Adi Roithmier and Head Pastry Chef 'Finny' Ferbrache.
A craft learned at pace, in a heated environment.
A palate educated and skills acquired.
Can you spot our chef?

Tis the season for hot chocolate 🍫
How do you drink yours?
Something with all the trimmings? Black Forest flavours or perhaps chocolate orange? Or, maybe chocolate & caramel?

Why not reserve yourself a table beside the window and enjoy the view, whatever the weather or perhaps toast your toes beside the fire this autumn?
