Sketchmap showing location of Ireby

FROM THE SOUTH OR EAST:- M6, Junction 40.  Take the A66 towards Keswick & Cockermouth.  Do not turn off into Keswick but continue to the roundabout and turn right along the A591 towards Carlisle.  Continue alongside Bassenthwaite Lake on your left until you come to the Castle Inn.  Turn right here, signposted to Ireby then take the second left turn, also signed to Ireby.  You will enter the village through ‘the narrers’.  Continue straight through the village and past the church on your left.  We are the last house in the village, just past the church.

FROM THE SOUTH (the scenic route through Caldbeck and over Caldbeck Common.  Best avoided at night or in bad weather): -  Come off the M6 at Junction 41 and follow the B5305 and signs to Caldbeck.  Continue through Caldbeck on the B5299 crossing Caldbeck Common.  Take the right turn signposted to Aspatria and Ireby.  This takes you over a cattle grid and up the hill.  As you come down the other side look out for a left hand turn near the bottom of the hill which is signposted to Ireby, but not very clearly!  Turn left here and follow this road into the village.  Turn right at the T junction and continue past the church.  Woodlands is the last house in the village, on your left, just past the church.

FROM THE NORTH  (via Carlisle - sometimes very busy & road signs in Carlisle are not as clear as they might be): -  M6, Junction 43.  Take the A69 to Carlisle then follow the A595 towards Workington.  At the Thursby roundabout stay on the A595, now signposted to Cockermouth.  Pass signs to Wigton to the right then look out for a left hand turn to Ireby and Boltongate.  Turn left here and continue to the T junction where you turn left into the village of Boltongate.  Pass through Boltongate, following signs to Ireby.  Look out for the 30 mph sign as you enter Ireby and slow down.  Woodlands is the first house on the right, just before the church and is easy to miss from this direction.  The turn into the drive is a bit sharp.

FROM THE NORTH OR NORTH EAST  (via Dalston – scenic cross-country route avoiding Carlisle but can be daunting in the dark or in bad weather): -  M6 Junction 42.  (NB Dalston is not signposted on the motorway, this is the A6 exit)  At the M6 roundabout take the minor road to Dalston.  When you reach the crossroad continue straight across (slightly offset – ‘straight across’ is just to your right!).  At the T junction in Dalston turn left towards Caldbeck, joining the B5299.  Continue straight on this road for some miles, going straight across at the next two crossroads.  When you reach the T junction turn right, signposted to Keswick and Ireby.  Take the next right turn, signposted to Aspatria and Ireby.

SATELLITE NAVIGATION.  Some of our guests have experienced difficulties in finding us using their in-car navigation systems.  In some instances guests have been directed from the A595 via the lane through Torpenhow.  This lane is little more than a single track, mostly used by tractors and some intrepid locals, and is really best avoided!
